D1 – Wine Production

This is a foundation Unit and students must study and sit the examination before they can continue with other Units.  The examination is 90 minutes long and is formed of open-response questions.  
D1 carries a 20% weighting

9:00am to 4:00pm

The D1 exam is a gateway exam to the rest of the program and must be taken before any other Units in Diploma.  The course is taught over three 8-hour class sessions. Registration is open to any students who have PASSED the Level 3 exam*.

  • The WEST no longer allows "Home Study". All students who cannot attend classes in person sign up for the Online Learning Program. The exams take place at Neptune School of Wine but the coursework is done at the new WSET Online Learning Module. Please email info@neptunewine.com for more information.

  • Registration is a two part process. Firstly, you must pre-register by contacting us at info@neptunewine.com and submitting the date that you passed your WSET Level 3 Award in Wines. Upon confirmation of eligiblity, you will then pay via button above. To make other payment arrangements, please email us.

Two additional texts for Diploma students to acquire on their own: The Oxford Companion to Wine Third Edition (required for Diploma), Understanding Wine Technology by David Byrd, and Viticulture by Stephen Skelton (both recommended reference for Unit D1). Amazon.com offers these. Students may also wish to browse the list of recommended reading  for Diploma.

 

Three Year Registration:

Students are registered for three years. They may sign-up for any Units and attempt the various assessments associated with Diploma as many times as necessary during this registration period.If Diploma studies are not complete within the 3-year registration period, then students may re-register for an additional 3-year period. Your accumulated passes will carry forward after being reviewed by the WSET.

WSET Diploma Assessment Preparation Scheme (DAPS):

The mentoring program - now known as DAPS - is administered by the WSET in London and is an invaluable tool for students.

* WSET qualifications are part of the UK qualifications framework, and the education courses leading to WSET qualifications are an invaluable source of information for students to enhance their knowledge of wines and spirits. WSET qualifications are not a guarantee of employment or career progression, nor do they form part of any regulated qualifications framework outside UK.
